A Show to Remember: Legally Blonde The Musical Jr Wows Audiences
Townsville State High School was abuzz with excitement recently as our Performing Arts students took to the stage for the much-anticipated production of Legally Blonde The Musical Jr. Held in the Denise Glasgow Performing Arts Centre, the show played to packed audiences across three stunning performances, each one bursting with energy, humour, and heart. From the moment the curtain rose, audiences were captivated by the colour, choreography, and confidence of our talented cast.
The production showcased the incredible depth of student talent at TSHS. Leading the way was our vibrant cast who embodied their characters with professionalism and passion, earning laughter, applause, and even a few tears from the crowd. Backed by a dedicated student crew managing lighting, sound, costumes, and sets, every aspect of the show was a testament to the teamwork and dedication that went into bringing the story to life.
Behind the scenes, a powerhouse team of staff worked tirelessly to guide, support, and mentor our young performers. From musical direction and choreography to backstage coordination and technical support, the commitment of our teachers and volunteers ensured that every detail was polished and every student felt supported. Their efforts created not just a successful show, but an unforgettable learning experience for all involved.
Townsville State High School extends its heartfelt thanks to every student, staff member, parent, and supporter who contributed to the success of Legally Blonde Jr. Whether you were on stage, behind the curtain, in the band, helping with makeup, or cheering from the audience – your role mattered. Congratulations to all involved on a fantastic production that truly highlighted the spirit, talent, and teamwork of our school community.

Town High kids show Townsville Folk Festival what they’re made of!
The Townsville Folk Festival is a not-for-profit, volunteer organised, family orientated festival that celebrates music, culture and community annually. 2025 saw the introduction of The Folk Fest Rising Stars Band Academy, designed to mentor and showcase emerging young artists
This year two bands with their roots at Townsville State High School made waves at the festival. The band Reflection (Cameron Considine, Charlie McDonald, Charlie Ashfield, Asher Bocska, Kobi Aitcheson) opened the festivals musical performances and the band Degenerates (Izzy Bee, MacKenzie Hinnrichs, Adelyne Gelling and Wyatt Beadle) took out top spot in a tie with another band that played at the festival!
We are extremely proud of our students and can’t wait to see what else they have in store as they prepare to take on world!

Circular Futures NQ – Innovation and Sustainability Summit
Griffith Jones and Jessie Mealor have been working on a circular economy project since winning the Big Ideas Roadshow Competition in 2023. Last month, they were guest panellists at the Smart Precinct NQ Innovation and Sustainability summit. They discussed their project to repurpose the abundance of PVC pipe offcut waste into seedling protectors and plant markers – FloraGIS. Thank you to Dr Lydia Canovas Saiz and Smart Precinct NQ for their mentoring and support of our students.

Student Support Services News
The YLC team is excited to announce that Josh Solomon, founder of 360 Empire and a nationally recognized youth speaker, visited Townsville State High School last Monday.
In addition to speaking with students, Josh generously offered to run a session for staff. He shared his insights into the science behind neurodivergence and the behaviours often associated with it. This was a valuable opportunity to hear from someone with both personal experience and an understanding of the neuroscience behind behaviour and it was also a chance to build professional knowledge and strengthen our shared approach to supporting students.

What’s been happening in the Intensive English Centre?
Milpera State High School Visit
In Week 5, Mrs Jhamb and I had the privilege of visiting 2 Brisbane schools, Milpera State High School and Yeronga State High School. Our goal was to deepen our understanding of best practices for in supporting CALD students (Culturally and Linguistically Diverse) students.
We were warmly welcomed by the staff at both schools and spent time gaining insights, resources, and developing great connections. We also met with leaders from other schools who enrol CALD students.
Classroom visits at Milpera SHS were definitely a highlight. We spoke with students about their learning and observed a range of lessons. We were inspired by their Reading and Writing program where up to 40 volunteers a day assist students with their English Acquisition.
We are excited to implement some of the fantastic ideas and learnings to enhance our program here at Town High.

Below is an article from Mrs Jhamb, one of our team leaders, on the amazing work occurring in her Visual Arts class:
Painting and Pattens: CALD Students Shine!
This term in Visual Art, our amazing CALD students have been letting their creativity shine in Visual Art by designing colourful pattern landscapes! Using lines, shapes, and repeated patterns, they explored new ways to express ideas without needing many words- just imagination! From stripey hills to spotty skies and zig-zag rivers, each artwork tells a unique story.
This creative project also helps support their English language learning, as students build vocabulary to describe their art, share ideas, and to talk about patterns, colour, and nature in fun and meaningful ways.
We’re so proud of their fantastic efforts- be sure to check out their masterpieces!
